Election for the Leader of the Conservative and Unionist Party
The Prime Minister has spoken to the King to tender her resignation and has apologised again for the failure to deliver her agenda.
The methods of voting and time frame for the candidates have been released and the new leader will be in position by next Friday.
The country expects to see decent, capable government in these difficult times. It is important we deliver the stability both the country and my constituents need.
The following timetable will apply:
Thursday
1800 Nomination papers available. Nominations will require the names and signature of a proposer and seconder, and 100 MPs in receipt of the Conservative Party Whip.
Monday
1400 Nominations will close
1430 Hustings
1500 Applications for proxy votes for first ballot close
1530 to 1730 First ballot
1800 Announcement of the results
1830 to 2030 Second ballot (if required)
2100 Announcement of the results
In the event that two candidates go forward to a ballot of the Party membership, there will be a private online husting for members. Members will vote for their preferred Leader until Friday 28th October with the result announced at 1500.
