On August 19th 2015, Jo Churchill MP visited a dedicated high welfare British Quality Pigs (BQP) outdoor sow breeding farm. This was followed by a tour of Dalehead’s Food’s processing plant in Bury St Edmunds. BQP supplies Dalehead with pork for a range of products for its dedicated client, Waitrose.

Jo Churchill MP said: “All sows are reared outdoors and well looked after, with an in house veterinary team providing excellent care. All BQP farms are assured to both RSPCA Freedom Food and Red Tractor standards as well as being audited independently. Likewise,  Dalehead Foods operate an extensive social responsibility program. Together, they form a fully integrated supply chain from farm to fork.

It was fascinating to visit both the pig farm and processing plant. I will continue to back local producers and recognise the importance of British farming not just to our economy, but to the UK’s food security."

Bury St Edmunds truly is the jewel in the crown of Suffolk and returning from Westminster, I am reminded of just how peaceful and restorative country living is. I too  was born and raised in the country and feel that it is important we protect the traditions and uniqueness of country life.
