Since her election, Jo Churchill MP has campaigned for access to drugs for rare diseases along with other MPs and the cross-party, multi-organisational #FundOurDrugsNOW campaign.

Mrs Churchill said: “NHS England recently announced it will fund the drugs needed by 16 year-old William Davis, from Bury St Edmunds, who suffers from tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC). William is one of around 30 people in the UK who urgently require the Everolimus drug, which has not yet been granted NHS funding in England, despite the medicine’s regulators ruling that the drug is safe and effective.

I was absolutely delighted to hear that the fight to get Everolimus for William has been successful. Having met his family before the election I was able to raise the wait that the family had endured and William’s need for the drug in a Westminster Hall debate early in this Parliament.  Better access to Everolimus and other drugs, is vital for patients who have ultra-rare diseases. I am thrilled for William and his family and will continue to press this issue in Parliament.”

In my lifetime, I have been grateful recipient of the healthcare services in this country and from my experiences, I greatly value the excellent work that is undertaken by all those employed in the National Health Service (NHS). Yet, my experience with cancer allowed me to see first hand, not only why the NHS is the greatest healthcare system in the world, but, what more we is required drive forward patient outcomes.
