I recently visited a local farm to discuss concerns about the East Anglia GREEN proposals put forward by National Grid.
The farm in question would see pylons cut through a significant number of its fields, making some unusable. This is by no means an isolated case along the proposed route and not isolated in my constituency.
The history of the farm is fascinating and I enjoyed a look at the church with its impressive eighth century tower. Learning more about the Site of Special Scientific Interest, I was struck by just what an impact these structures will have. Not only to the farm but on the surrounding areas.
I know there is strong feeling locally about these proposals. That is why, along with other regional MPs, I have been pushing for sub-sea transmission to be put forward to the local community as an option. We have recently sent further correspondence to the Energy Minister on this point.
Protecting rural communities in East Anglia is vital. We power the nation with its food and its energy – we want to be heard.
