West Suffolk Sands Support Group offers emotional support for parents who have been affected by baby loss. I recently met with Isobel, Kira, Jacqui and Angela, all Sands volunteers to hear more about their work and specific issues that affect parents. I was so grateful to them for sharing stories with me of their and other members experiences. We spoke about how beneficial groups like this are for supporting both parents and the support the Government has given around neonatal parental leave and baby loss certificates but where it would be good to look next to support this group more fully.
The group holds support meetings on the first Wednesday of each month, 7pm-9pm at the Southgate Centre in Bury St Edmunds. They also hold a family support group on the second Sunday of each month, 1.30pm-3.30pm at the same location.
