On the 11th, I had the pleasure of attending the re-dedication of the Haughley War Memorial.
The War Memorial stands as a testament to the resilience and courage of the people of Haughley. It is a reminder of the sacrifices made by previous generations and a call to future generations to remember and honour those who have given their lives for their country.
The fact that Haughley lost more young men of 25 and under than any other Parish of its size during WW1 makes the War Memorial even more poignant. It serves as a reminder of the devastating impact that war can have on a community, and the importance of remembering those who gave their lives for their country.
The committee's commitment to making the memorial accessible to all and reflective of modern conflicts is also worthy of recognition. It is important that everyone, regardless of their physical abilities, is able to pay their respects and honour the sacrifices made by the men and women of Haughley.
The committee have done a remarkable job in creating a fitting tribute to the men and women of Haughley who have served their country, and their achievements will be celebrated and remembered for years to come. A particular shout out to Margaret whose energy and commitment has seen the project through.
