The new Primark store in Bury St Edmunds is a welcome addition to our high street, creating local jobs and a new place to shop. It was fascinating to talk to the team about their buddy system helping new members of the Primark family to find their feet.

There are 151 jobs and more than 80 great new staff members were celebrating getting a job after having not been in work.  They told me of their long association with Suffolk as the Ipswich store is one of their oldest and one of the employees there recently celebrated 44 years with the business, incredible!

The number of people visiting Bury on Wednesday was above pre-pandemic numbers and it was great to see new life being breathed into the centre of the Arc shopping centre to complement our other great retail offers. Thank you to the team at the store for showing me round last week.

I informed the Prime Minister recently of my decision to stand down at the next election. It has been a privilege & honour to serve the people of Bury St Edmunds & Stowmarket. I wish my successor all the best in representing this most wonderful part of our United Kingdom.
