On Thursday 17th December, Jo Churchill MP asked the Secretary of State for Environment and Rural Affairs about efforts to deliver more trade to China for export businesses in Bury St Edmunds.
Mrs Churchill MP said: “Since the Prime Minister was pictured enjoying a pint of Greene King with President Xi Jinping, the export of this fine beer from its home in my Bury St Edmunds constituency to China, has gone up from 3,000 to 50,000 cases. Now, they and other rural exporting businesses within my constituency are keen to learn what help her Department working in conjunction with UK Trade and Investment are doing, to help fund and organise trade shows and business development visits in order to secure the continued trade of the thriving Chinese market?”
The Secretary of State for Environment and Rural Affairs, Liz Truss MP responded: “I was in China a few weeks ago. One of the things we were promoting was Greene King in Chong King in fact and we had the biggest ever delegation of UK food companies- over 80 companies were with us on the visit to China with the launch of the Great British Food Unit which brings together UKTI expertise and DEFRA expertise. I expect us to have even more in the future.”
