Election night

On Friday 9th June, Jo Churchill was declared Member of Parliament for Bury St Edmunds, having won 36,794 votes and with a majority of 18,441.

Speaking on the announcement, Mrs Churchill thanked all the polling staff and those at the count. She paid tribute to her fellow candidates; Bill Edwards (Lab), Helen Korfanty (LD), Helen Geake (Green) and Liam Byrne (Independent) for a good campaign.

Speaking on her re-election, Jo said: “It is truly an honour to have been re-elected and to have, once again, won the confidence of this truly wonderful constituency.

I am eager to begin work on my priorities for Bury St Edmunds, Stowmarket and Needham Market and those interconnecting villages; improving rural infrastructure, mobile and broadband access, delivering the very best for our NHS and education, including fairer funding, and supporting our local businesses.

This election campaign brought forward greater concern for issues including, but not exclusive to, our public services and fairness within society. I am in no way complacent about the challenges ahead nor the difficult questions must we ask of ourselves, in order to win back the public’s confidence. These concerns which were brought up during the campaign must be addressed. It is my intention to ensure I do my absolute best to represent the whole of this constituency, our county and my country."
