It is welcome news that West Suffolk Council will be receiving £345,000 for 2019/20 from the Rough Sleeping Initiative fund to continue its work to end rough sleeping throughout the next year.

We all know that the sooner intervention can take place, the quicker an individual’s life can be improved. Rough sleepers can often have incredibly complex needs, which makes outreach work vital. I know this has been a focus for West Suffolk Council, with a team of support workers being taken on with expertise in addiction and mental health support in particular.

Rough sleeping has been significantly reduced, but one person sleeping rough is ultimately one too many. I have no doubt of the resolve West Suffolk Council has to build upon its successful work to end rough sleeping in our community.
