With the debate surrounding our membership of the European Union (EU) well under way and having already declared my support for the renegotiations still taking place, it is about time we talk about the EU.
On Thursday 11th February, Shailesh Vara MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Justice announced Bury St Edmunds Magistrates Court will be closed, only “once suitable alternative local provisions had been established.”
As we welcome in the New Year, the new start is proving great for our area. 2015 saw the largest rise in house prices in Bury St Edmunds by almost 13%. A handful of Suffolk’s community leaders received honours on the New Year’s Honours List and the town is ready to blossom as Bury In Bloom replenishes our town’s floral display.

On Saturday 23rd January, Jo Churchill MP co-signed a new report from the British Infrastructure Group of MPs (BIG), which revealed a staggering 5.7 million customers cannot access sufficient internet across the UK.
As the country experiences a long awaited cold snap, our NHS faces its yearly bout of winter pressures, this time amidst the ongoing talks regarding junior doctors’ contracts. Whilst these talks continue to dominate the headlines, the public dispute has side-lined other issues including the increasing challenge to deliver much needed GP services up and down the country.
In my first seven months as Member of Parliament for Bury St Edmunds, one lesson I quickly learnt is that the pace of political life is fast moving and planning ahead is essential. Therefore, this Christmas I took the opportunity to reflect on an exciting year and to think about my New Year’s resolutions.
